Intoducing the Coral Reef Disc Golf Course

A few weeks ago I decided to take up the game of disc golf. I was looking for a way to get some exercise and have some fun–both important aspects of the Primal Blueprint. I play quite a bit with my grandson; however, with the days growing shorter, and the end of daylight savings time drawing near, I knew getting out on weekdays would get tough. So I came up with a solution. I bought a portable disc golf basket so Dominic and I could still get in some practice and play time in the afternoon. When it arrived yesterday, we were throwing it in our backyard, when it dawned on my that I could put it in the front, and set up a small course of sorts. So that’s what I did. We have nine “tees” that provide a variety of looks, and give us a chance to practice some shots we see on the course. So here’s a quick tour:

We start off in our neighbor’s driveway. This hole will change in a couple weeks. My wife hates the palm trees so they’ll be coming down.

We move down the driveway for a different angle for #2. I hit the chains on my first try from here but the basket spit it out.

Still further down the driveway and the plant life starts getting in the way.

Hole #4 takes us out into the street. I tried throwing it real low and it got caught up in the thick grass. Nicky was the smart one–he threw a roller that stopped two feet from the basket!

Back to the sidewalk for #5 and another tough shot to put in the basket. I tried going up through the mesquite tree and ended up with a shot on my knees under the orange tree.

A little further down the sidewalk for #6 and it would take a miracle shot for an ace!

Holes 7 thru 9 are all unencumbered shots at the basket from increasingly longer distances.

The great thing about this is that the possibilities are limitless. We can move both the basket and the tees to different locations to create a variety of shots. Very few people park on the street in our little subdivision so it would even be safe to put the basket on the sidewalk and try some longer shots from the street. This is going to be fun BUT it won’t substitute completely for getting out to the park and just throwing the disc as far as you can and watching it glide through the air.

By the way, the course gets its name from my street name—Coral Reef Drive.
